This page details a Policy.

The following describes what user software may be installed globally on Spoon.

Generally any CLI program, library or documentation in the Debian Stable Main archive will be installed upon request.

However anything that

  • has security concerns
  • requires suid/sgid
  • is computationally intensive
  • is a server
  • is an X app

for example will have to be considered carefully. This is not an exhaustive list.

For anything in /usr/local/spoon/bin (useful self contained scripts) we must have the source. For scripts its easy as its already in CVS. For binaries a copy of the source and any diffs should be somewhere users can get to and somewhere that is backed up.
