Hey is a tool for communicating directly with other users on Spoon and Matrix. Hey will send a message to someone that will display itself on their terminal.

Basic Usage

To send nosmo a hey, simply type

hey nosmo

in a terminal, and then type your message. To send your message, hit return and then ctrl+D; if you want to cancel, just hit ctrl+C. Once the message is sent, hey will exit. An example hey session would run as follows:

nosmo@spoon ~ =) hey nosmo
[ recipients : nosmo ]
heyhey!
[ hey nosmo--okay. ]

The message will be displayed on the recipient's screen as follows:

Hugh says:
Hey, Hugh

                                  /---------\
                                  ) heyhey! (
                                  \---------/

EOF

Managing heys

Heys can be annoying however, especially if they arrive in on top of your work. If you wish to ignore heys altogether, simply type "mesg n" in your terminal. "mesg y" will re-enable incoming messages again. If you have more than one terminal open, you can use the "heyhere" script to redirect all your heys to the terminal in which you run it. If a hey arrives on top of a window you are working in and corrupts the display, ctrl+L will redraw your screen. heylog (or 'hl') will bring up a list of your recent heys.
