Sending and Receiving Email

Using your netsoc email account and using matrix to send mail
Your Netsoc Email Account

Every Netsoc member gets a free email account with membership. Even if you don't want to use your matrix account, you can use your netsoc email address.

Your email address takes the form of username@netsoc.tcd.ie, where username is the name you chose when you signed up to netsoc (see your welcome mail for details). Alternatively you can use the form username@matrix.netsoc.tcd.ie which acts the same.

By default, your netsoc mail is forwarded to your TCD email address, but you we can set it to deliver locally to matrix or to forward somewhere else. The main benefit of your Netsoc email address is that you can choose the username, as opposed to being stuck with the TCD email address that you are given.

Using Pine to Send and Receive Mail

pine will let you check your college mail and Netsoc email. Like Pico, the instrictions are on the screen. It reads off the same files as college Webmail, so if you delete mails here, they'll be deleted when you go into Webmail. This used to be useful for checking your email away from college, but since they brought in Webmail it's a bit pointless. When it prompts you for a truxa1.tcd.ie password, type your college usename and password.
